The Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) in collaboration with National Medical Services is pleased to announce the availability of training opportunities for the Laboratory Assistant Training /Phlebotomy Training. 

The Training will be conducted by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, JDWNRH, Thimphu in collaboration with the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, as follows: 

  1. Program Training: Training on Certificate in Phlebotomy
  2. Tentative course start date: 15th January 2024
  3. Duration of training: Seven months (04 months training followed by 03 months hands-on attachment)
  4. Certificate/award: Certificate in Phlebotomy
  5. Number of candidates: 40 candidates will be selected (20 will start in the first batch and the remaining 20 will start when the first batch commences OJT after four months). Up to 10 candidates may be kept on reserve/waiting list
  6. Eligibility criteria are as follow: 
  • Class XII Passed (any stream)
  • If there are tie/equal scores during selection, science students may be given the preference over other streams
  • Individuals who are below 34 years can apply but preference will be given to younger candidates. 

 7. Shortlisting Criteria are as follow:

  • 70% from Class XII marks (best four subjects including English) and 30% from Class X marks (best four subjects including English) 

8. Selection Criteria are as follow

  • 60% from academic performance of Class X and XII 
  • 40% from the VIVA VOCE 

9. Documents required :

  • Copy of Valid Citizenship Identity Card (original must be produced during selection process) 
  • Copy Class X certificate and transcript (original must be produced during selection process)
  • Copy of Class XII  certificate and transcripts (original must be produced during selection process)
  • Valid security clearance 
  • Valid Medical fitness certificate 

10. Entitlements during training:

  • Tuition fees will be covered by the National Medical Services 
  • A monthly stipend of Nu. 2500.00 (at par with FNPH, KGUMSB pre-service trainees) will be provided for seven months
  • Costs for certificates and other requirements will be covered
  • Candidates have to arrange their living and fooding expenses

11. Employment: 

  • After the training, employment will depend on available vacancy in different hospitals as per position approved by the Royal Civil Service Commission. 
  • Selection for the employment shall be based on Bhutan Civil Service Rules and Regulations. 
  • After training, employment is not guaranteed and there will be no obligations on the part of the National Medical Services to provide employment.
